Oaks Ranch Aerial

The Oaks Ranch began in 1992 when Kathy read her first article on the Rocky Mountain Horse, and got hooked! This would be the perfect family horse to breed and raise for their own family and others. Both of her children wanted horses to ride, but like most parents Kathy and her husband Bob wanted something safe and reliable, she was sure she found the right breed of horse, and she was right! They purchased their first Rocky Mountain Horses in 1994, a mare in foal and a three year old gelding. In 1995 they acquired six more youngsters. These horses are addictive. Like potato chips, you can't have just one.

Today they have their own stallion, "Yankee's Rising Star," a grandson of "Tobe" and a magnificent example of the Rocky Mountain Horse.

Our mare herd numbers four, all mares are black. Our emphasis is on health, temperament and gait, ...not color! Our breeding program is about soundness, gait and temperament! Our horses are registered and certified with the Rocky Mountain Horse Association and the Kentucky Mountain Horse Association.

At the Oaks Ranch, the health and welfare of our horses is our number one concern. All of the horses are separately housed and pastured in pairs or individually, this way we avoid pecking orders and injuries. In the fall , winter and spring all of the horses are fed alfalfa/grass hay, timothy hay, beet pulp and grain. Youngsters and pregnant mares are given vitimines daily. The horses are fed twice daily, this allows us to check each animal over throughly. In the late spring and summer they graze on improved pasture and raise their foals in a natural enviroment.

Along with our feeding program we deworm our horses every other month with a rotating eviermectin paste wormer. Vacinations are given Bi - Annually and the Farrier visits once a month for hoof maintainence. We try to allow the horses to live in their natural state as much as possible, each pair of horses have roomy run in sheds where they can eat and are protected from the elements.

Our Stallion enjoys the company of one or more of his mares year around, we feel that living in a natural environment is the healthiest way to keep a stallion. Yankee's Rising Star is the most relaxed, laid back stallion, if you came to visit you would not know that he was a stallion unless you checked to see. He just hangs out with the mares and behaves better then either the mares or the geldings, his attitude about everything clearly shows that he is one happy stallion.

The Oaks Ranch offers for purchase two to four foals each year, we like to be able to give individual attention to each foal from birth until they leave for their new homes. Our foals are trained to lead, clip, trim hooves, and load before leaving the Oaks Ranch. They stand quietly and are used to being bathed. All foals are wormed monthly.

It is our pleasure to invite you to visit and experience for yourself the smooth gait and docile temperament of the Gaited Mountain Horse. Please contact me to set up a visit or to ask any questions. We can't say enough about these wonderful horses.

See you soon,
Kathy and Bob Naylor
